School Delays/Closures & Weather-Related Alerts
On occasion, there may be extreme weather events or utility outages, where it may be unsafe to transport students to and from school, for staff members to commute to and from school, or for staff and students to remain on campus. When this happens, there are a range of options CVUSD may implement, with the goal of having the least disruption, while maintaining a safe learning environment.
NOTIFICATION
When an extreme weather event occurs, parents/guardians, staff, and community members will be notified in multiple ways.
As early as 5:30a.m., an automated mass message will go out with information about the plan for the day. This may include a phone call, text message, email, or all 3 methods of communication.
The same information will also be shared via Facebook, the District's website, and local news outlets via radio and internet.
In some cases, when the extreme weather event has already taken place, or is imminent, there may be notification the evening before.
OPTIONS
2-Hour Delay
A 2-hour delay will be called by the superintendent when it is anticipated that it will be safe to transport students later in the morning. School start times and bus pickup times will be two hours later than normal. Students will be dismissed at their normal time.
At-Home Learning Day
When it appears that it will not be safe to transport students for a large portion of the day, the superintendent may call an At-Home Learning Day. The school sites will be closed, but teachers will remotely utilize Google Classroom and Google Meet to instruct students at home. Each school will have slightly different student expectations for that day. Basic student expectations are outlined below. It is also suggested to visit the At-Home Learning Day page on your student's school website, located under the Parent tab. At-Home Learning will take place using a 2-hour delay schedule.
If a parent/guardian chooses to excuse their student from participating in at-home learning, we ask that they call their student's school to excuse their absence for that day.
School Cancelation
In extreme cases where there are widespread internet and/or utility outages or other unforeseen events, school will be canceled and that day will be made up at a later date.
*Please be aware that the superintendent will continue to assess weather conditions after the initial calls are made and may change the option. For example, a 2-Hour Delay may be updated to an At-Home Learning Day or a School Cancellation.
